WHY CONTROL WASPS?
Noticed wasps buzzing near your doorway, deck, or patio? You’re not alone. In Iowa City, it’s common for wasps to nest around homes—turning everyday spaces into zones you’d rather avoid.
And while some wasps help control other insects, their presence near people can quickly become a real problem. One wrong move near a nest, and you or your family could be dealing with painful stings—or worse, a medical emergency for someone with allergies.
That’s why homeowners in Iowa City count on Bobcat Wildlife & Pest Management for safe, effective wasp pest control right when it matters most.

How to Keep Wasps Away After Treatment:
Want to make sure wasps don’t come back after we’ve removed the nest? Many Iowa City homeowners ask how to prevent wasps from nesting again.
Here are four simple, effective tips that help keep wasps from returning to your yard or home:
- 1
Seal Entry Points Around Your Home:
Wasps look for small gaps to squeeze into attics, siding, or under eaves. Walk around your property and fill or seal any cracks or holes near windows, vents, or doors to block access.
- 2
Clean Up Food and Drink Outdoors:
Leftover food and sugary drinks are magnets for wasps. After barbecues or backyard meals, wipe down tables, cover drinks, and don’t leave trash or scraps sitting out.
- 3
Watch for Early Signs of Nesting:
Small paper nests on roof overhangs or in your shed can turn into big problems fast. Check regularly—especially in spring and early summer—to catch new nests before they grow.
- 4
Keep Yard Spaces Tidy:
Wasps like undisturbed areas for nesting. Cut back overgrown shrubs, store firewood neatly, and remove debris piles so your yard stays less inviting to them.
These steps don’t replace professional wasp control, but they do help keep your space less appealing to future colonies.

HOW TO SPOT WASP ACTIVITY

Early detection is crucial to stopping wasps from becoming a serious problem. Keep an eye out for these common signs of wasp activity around your home:
1. Persistent Buzzing Near Structures
Consistent buzzing near windows, walls, or attics may indicate wasps nesting in hidden spaces like wall cavities or roof voids.
2. Small, Papery Nest Formation
Wasps begin with small, paper-like nests. Check under eaves, in garage corners, or beneath outdoor furniture to identify nests in their early stages.
3. Frequent Wasps Near Food and Trash
Wasps are drawn to sweet foods and protein sources. An increase in activity near trash bins or outdoor dining areas can indicate a nearby nest.

Why Choose Bobcat Wildlife & Pest Control

In early 2023, we discovered we had mice in our attic. After calling several pest control companies, we chose Bobcat since they presented an approach that seemed reasonably priced and thorough. I’m pleased to report the mice are gone and we no longer hear wood chewing sounds coming from the attic. Derek is extremely knowledgeable and readily answers any questions that we may have. Although our initial reason for having Bobcat help us out was to eliminate mice in the attic and eliminate how they were getting inside the house, Derek has helped prevent other pests that would regularly bother us, and was dependent on the season.

We’ve been working with Blake for a few years and completely recommend him for all of his services. We initially contacted for bat removal and now use him for pest and bug prevention. Last summer Blake used mosquito mitigation boxes that worked perfectly. We didn’t battle mosquitos all summer long (we live right up against a wetland).

They cleared our gutters after noticing it was filled with mud. They were working on our neighbors roof and helped us out free of charge without being asked!

QUICK!!! Did an excellent job removing a bird’s nest and reattaching the soffit to my house. Would absolutely recommend!
